LANDSCAPES AND THE UNBUILT
Group exhibition at Rochester Contemporary Arts Center
Rochester, New York
This group show is currently on view at Rochester Contemporary Art Center through March 16th. 11 local artists were asked to connect with and reflect upon Genesee Land Trust conserved property. I chose to be paired with Full Lotus Farm, a permaculture/no-till farm, because of the inextricable link between food, land, and body. Visiting with farmers, Sam and Sarah, gave me insight into the physical process of this farming method, as well as the importance of an emotional connection to the ecosystem. The paintings in this series embody an idealized human relationship to the land; living in balance with the earth’s natural processes. Through the organic application of gouache and the synchronized use of ink to build structure, synergistic landscapes emerge. They reflect my desire for deeper understanding of, and communion with, the land.
